"Pair Of “clichy ” Vases"
Beautiful pair of Clichy vases which everyone knows is a production of the Legras glassworks from the end of the 19th century. Despite the large production, it is not very easy to find them in pairs. These belong to the so-called "variegated" series presented in the production plates of 1889 as "new shapes and colors". All models have a name. This one is the "Czarine" model found in a commercial plate of the "Verreries et Cristalleries de Saint-Denis" under the reference 3135. This model with a variegated pink-blue-white background has a belly with large ribs and horizontal lines. The vases were blown in a mold, the body is therefore always strictly identical but conversely, the wavy neck was pinched and therefore always different. In passing, we would like to thank the authors of the excellent book "François-Théodore Legras, French artistic and popular glassware": Marie-France and Jean-François MICHEL, Dominique and Jean VITRAT. Their work is magnificent and superbly documented. Any lover of beautiful glassware and Legras must own it. Each of the vases is photographed in profile, making a 1/4 turn in order to show the variegated effect produced by the mixture of colors which results from pure chance. This is what makes the charm of all Clichy production, it's always the same thing but never the same ! Let us recognize in these pieces, more than a century old, an incredible modernity capable of brightening up your interior.
