"Sauveur Bernay-théric (1874-1963) Angler On The Rocks Of The Corniche In Marseille"
One of the most coveted subjects among the works of Provencal artists of the early 20th century, La Corniche in Marseille at Anse de la Fausse Monnaie. Famous for its three-arch bridge, its picturesque little port, a few meters from the Marégraphe de La Corniche, and the famous Petit Nice restaurant. The work is created by the Marseille artist Sauveur Bernay Théric (1874-1963), in oil on wooden panel, it is offered in a pretty period carved frame which measures 45.5 cm by 68.5 cm and 32 cm by 55 cm for the panel alone. It represents an angler on the rocks in the Petit Nice cove. In very good condition, bright and decorative, the work is signed lower left.
Student of Adolphe Louis Gaussen, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes français from 1926 to 1936: "Le Quai de Rive Neuve (1926)" - "L'entrance du bas fort (1927)". We also meet him at the Exhibitions of Marrseillais Artists at the Galerie Detaille (1924), at the Salon de le Mer, at the Salon Rhodanien and at the Société d'Art Occitan. The Chateau-Gombert Museum in Marseille keeps "Un Vieux Mas" from him, as for the Communal Funds, they own "L'Arbre Mort".
