He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence with Enrico Pollastrini and Angiolo Tricca. He was appointed professor there and received a scholarship. He exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts in London from 1879 to 1883. Painter of frescoes, landscapes, portraits, female figures, genre scenes, historical scenes and still lifes, he used oil and watercolor in historical settings, particularly from the 17th and 18th centuries. In his works, he combines a certain precision with impressionist techniques. He also illustrated the poetic works of Renato Fucini.
