Object description :

"Important Series Of Rocaille Sconces Around 1740"
Description:
chiseled bronze, gilded.

This set is exceptional in number (three pairs) and in quality at the level of the most beautiful sconces of this period;
Moreover, these wall lights are the full model of a pair which is in the Louvre, dated 1740, with the inventory number: OA6504-1;OA6504-2
They have three lights by movements opposed in pairs, each binet is different and the carving is deep and elegant.
One binet is in the shape of an exploded pomegranate (fruit), the second in a coil of leaves and the third in flowers tightly packed in foliage.
The plate is in the shape of bundles of stems and leaves carrying the naturalist arms of light which also reproduce branches bearing buds and flowers. The binets are cast in one piece with the arms while emerging from foliage, this rich work denotes a complexity of bronze casting, it is a process that we will no longer find in the 19th century, the design in several parts ( screwed) being simpler than complex foundry acts. If you would like to receive a video of this object in order to better “understand” it, or detailed photos, do not hesitate to ask us.

the condition is exceptional, and the gilding is almost perfect.
There is only one bin fixed by a screw (Repair), we see it in the sixth photo .
Electrification holes at the back of the binets and on the backs of the arms (invisible).

32 cm x 10 cm (plate) x 52 cm (height) x 40 cm (span) x 13 cm (overhang).
