End of the 18th century - Early 19th century France - Rhône Valley Magnificent terracotta oil jar This jar has an elegant ovoid shape with a slightly flared neck. It is decorated with relief patterns, with digital bands characteristic of the style of the region. On the face of the jar, the letters “I” and “S” surround a Christ on the cross, a rare representation. “IS”: Iesus Salvator, Jesus our Savior. Traditionally used for storing walnut oil, this jar bears witness to the rich cultural heritage of Auvergne and its ancestral agricultural practices. Its state of conservation is good, offering a beautiful natural patina which highlights its original color.
