Superb carving and mercury gilding for this large Empire period clock representing Urania, Muse of astronomy. On an ornate base adorned with scientific cherubs in neoclassical style, the terminal clock swings, with Urania on one side and an astrolabe on the other. Book ornamentation below the dial. This clock is therefore dedicated to knowledge, knowledge, science and astronomy. The dial is silvered bronze. The wire betting movement works for a few minutes then stops. It will be advisable to have it calibrated by a watchmaker. The original mercury gilding is sublime, with mattes and shines. This is a very high quality and very decorative piece.
