OIL ON CANVAS from the 19th century, represent two women sitting chatting while having coffee. Note some small wear. Signed lower left: Picart le Doux His life: “Charles Picart Le Doux is a French painter, engraver, lithographer, decorator, illustrator and poet born July 12, 1881 in Paris. Charles Picart Le Doux attended the Académie Jullian then entered the Beaux-Arts in Paris from which he graduated in 1902. He began by exhibiting at the Salon d'Automne, and at the Indépendants before embarking on the adventure of the Abbey of Créteil , in 1906. This community of painters, writers and poets brought together Georges Duhamel, Charles Vildrac, Albert Gleizes and Jules Romains, and strove to renew artistic creation. Enriched by this enterprise, Charles Picart Le Doux exhibited solo in 1910 at the Biot gallery and was received at the Salon. After the First World War, he threw himself headlong into painting to forget the trauma of the conflict. Artist of the Vildrac gallery, he was introduced to the colors and light of Saint-Tropez by the Vildrac couple and his palette was enriched with southern colors. He then moved to Durand-Rueil and began an international career, with exhibitions in the United States (New York, San Francisco), England and Germany. In 1937, he won the Grand Gold Medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris. During the Second World War, he settled in Touraine and devoted himself to landscape and portraiture. He died in Paris on September 11, 1959. His works are in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris. »
