Four reserves and a central medallion reveal a finely painted decoration. The upper and lower reserves are decorated with scenes of everyday palatial life.
In the upper reserve, a woman is presented to a richly dressed princess. The scene takes place outside, on a terrace. In the lower room, a man in armour is presented to the same princess. The reserves on the right and left feature decorations of flowers and birds. Butterflies are also delicately painted. The central medallion shows a bird on a flowering plant.
Green family porcelain refers to a type of glazed ceramic in which green (iron oxide glazes) is the dominant colour. During this process, the pieces are first covered with a protective glaze. They are then fired at 1400°. Once painted, the decoration is low-fired at 800°. This piece is of the highest quality, with meticulously detailed decoration. It dates from the early 19th century.
