"Paul Pascal Watercolor Mediterranean Landscape Italy 19th Century 1874"
This watercolor presents a Mediterranean landscape, probably Italian, signed Paul Pascal and dated 1874. At the seaside, in a hilly landscape, a group of fishermen in the foreground sets out to sea, while a donkey and his master run along the coast. In the distance, a village discovers a citadel on the heights. The pictorial quality is absolutely sublime, both in the drawing and in the mastery of the watercolor technique of the artist Paul Pascal, known for his orientalist gouaches covering the entire Mediterranean region. The artist, born in 1839 in Toulouse, trained at the School of Fine Arts in Madrid and having lived in his youth in North Africa, is one of the figures of French orientalist painting. Dimensions: without frame 21 cm wide x 14.5 cm high with frame 41 cm wide x 35 cm high. Very good quality of conservation, frame in good condition.
