Robert Liard (1911-1988).
Painter, watercolorist, draftsman, engraver. Spent his childhood in Paris. Back in La Louvière, he benefited from the advice and help of L. Devos and L. Buisseret. Takes drawing lessons at the Academy of Liège and becomes friends with Zabeau, Scauflaire and Comhaire. Second Prix de Rome in 1937. Predilection for portraits, nudes, figures, landscapes, industrial sites, views of fairs and towns, seascapes, still lifes. Finds his inspiration in the Liège region, but the discovery of Italy will be a real revelation: he finds subjects there for numerous works. Synthesizes his subjects to make solid compositions which nevertheless exude a discreet poetry. In 1935, co-founder of the “Tendances Contemporaines” and “Dix Pointes et Brossses” Groups. In the 1950s, he was a member of the Cercle des Beaux-Arts in Liège, founded the "Groupe Les Artistes de Liège" and collaborated with the magazine "L'Esprit Mosan". In 1962, he founded the “Climat Group” and the magazine “Sur L’art”. From 1949 to 1977, he taught at the Academy of Liège. Works in the Museums of Brussels, Ixelles, Tournai, La Louvière, Namur, Liège
