The custom of reworking historical-literary themes, based on the galloping Romanticism, encouraged the profusion of paintings with a historical subject but reinterpreted through the lens of a romantic sentimentalism, Gently tempered with figurative innovations. 
This painting depicts Renzo and Lucia in the company of Fra Cristoforo, who holds out his hands over them, blessing. Lucia does not yet touch the traditional crocchia spillata, so celebrated in the engravings of Gonin (1808-1889) following the third edition of the Promessi Sposi and Fra Cristoforo, likewise, shows a short beard. However, the clothes of the Cappuccino and the intense concentration on the two young people reinforce his identification, supported by the strongly Manzonian clothes of Renzo, for travel, and the intimacy of the scene. 

The artist of the present prefers, to the literary Lazzaretto where Fra Cristoforo dissolves the vow of Lucia or to the convent of Pescarenico, place of moral rebirth of the confessor, a morigerata and graceful setting of monastic hermitage, in line with the dictates of the time, especially in northern areas. Monasteries and convents of fantasy allowed the artistic creator to pronounce a greater character of evocative invention, awakening in the artistic consensus the security of unforgettable admiration, The strings of intellectual emotion were exalted by the painting of soft colors. On the same line, the color distribution is here carefully marked through the use of warm earthy colors, with palpable texture, while the architectural skeleton depicted is rendered fable-like evanescent through the private column romantically central trunk in the foreground.
