Neolithic Stone Ax flag

Object description :

"Neolithic Stone Ax"
Sharpened axes are the most characteristic type of Neolithic tool. The first occurrence of sharpened axes is also, internationally, the definition of the early Neolithic. Flint axes were recognized by people as ancient finds much earlier than other types of tools. With Neolithic axes, the raw form of an ax is first hammered out through pre-treatment, then it is sharpened until a smooth edge is created. This grinding was often carried out using large, coarse-grained stones. These stone axes come from an old Dutch collection. One ax was found in Denmark, while another was found in a lake in Arnside, England. The sizes are: “Denmark”; 14.8 cm, “England”; 13.2 cm and black; 13.4cm
