Royal Dux porcelain, produced in Duchcov, Czech Republic, since 1853, was founded by Eduard Eichler. Initially, the company concentrated on simple white tableware, but soon began to experiment with colour and decoration. It enjoyed a period of prosperity, producing mainly earthenware, faience and majolica. The designs inspired by Copenhagen, Worcester and Sèvres were very successful and earned the company a silver medal at the Paris Exhibition in 1878. After Eichler's death in 1887, his widow Amalia Eichler continued to run the company until 1890. In the 1870s, Royal Dux began producing figurines, which became the company's main business in the early 20th century. Today, Royal Dux figurines are highly sought after and the company continues to produce porcelain tableware and statuettes. The Art Nouveau period marked a significant milestone for the company, with chief model maker Alois Hampel leading the design efforts. Under Hampel's leadership, the factory enjoyed remarkable success, winning the Grand Prix at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair, the silver medal at the 1906 Milan Exhibition, and the gold medal at the Liberec Exhibition. Some products introduced at this time are still being manufactured today. Object Dimensions: Height 39.5 cm, Width 18 cm, Depth 14 cm, Weight 1345 grams Condition: Slight loss of gilding due to age.
