The handle and blade are solid, and the hilt is heavy to give force to the blow: we feel that we are in the presence of a weapon and not a simple item of clothing...
It is Italian, (or perhaps Spanish) and dates from the first half of the 17th century
BLADE: this is the typical blade of stilettos of this period. After a first part worked in the shape of a baluster on 2.5 cm, the blade takes on a very sharp triangular section, capable of passing through the rings of a chainmail. Length of the blade = 19 cm Width near the guard 9.7 mm thickness near the guard = 9.5 mm
GUARD : it is heavy and strong, in the shape of 2 twisted balls, similar to what we see on artillery military silettos
HILT : It is in one piece, fuse and pommel. In the shape of a twisted baluster. The tang of the blade is riveted to a small button at the top of the pommel.
Taking this weapon in hand, one immediately evokes the discreet assassinations of gentlemen in the nocturnal streets of Florence or Rome... Once again, this dagger has nothing to do with the small elegant stilettos worn in court costume.
