"Empty Pocket Cup On Foot In Turned Juniper Wood With Marquetry "
In all likelihood, this is a souvenir brought back from the Brigands' Cave in the 19th century. The sand sea of the Fontainebleau Forest was a very popular tourist destination at the time and La Caverne de Brigands was a somewhat mysterious place created from scratch to welcome these new visitors and offer them souvenirs, very often folk art made of orange-coloured and very veined juniper wood. I have never encountered decorative objects made of juniper from elsewhere and this cup is also identifiable by its production technique with a beaded and ribbed shaping so typical of these objects. Today there is a restaurant called "La Caverne des Brigands", unrelated to the original Caverne.
