Very beautiful portrait of a nobleman in a landscape - Northern European School of the 19th century based on portraits made around 1620/1630 In Northern Europe, the wearing of the so-called confusion ruff was very fashionable in the 1620s/1630s.
The so-called confusion ruff is an unstarched ruff, with several rows, much less rigid, falling on the shoulders in a ruff then in large folded collars, finally in a folded collar edged with lace (Louis XIII style).
