"Kota Reliquary Figure, Gabon."
Kota reliquary figure of the Mahongwe type, 51 cm excluding the base. This object can be dated to the mid-20th century at the latest, an estimated date based on the storage period of the object, the time frame of which we know. It is a core of very dry hardwood, normally aged by time, plated with copper or brass wire of the trade or salvaged wire type. The style and patina of the sculpture are in keeping with the period and the ethnic group they represent. It is a beautiful, very aesthetic example. The metal base is of modern manufacture.
