The anatomy of the horse, due to its complexity, is one of the favorite animals for artists. And this is even more so when it comes to representing its ardor, as is the case for the terracotta sculpture presented. The horse is here represented in a fight with a snake wrapped around its belly and chest. The tense body of the neighing animal, raising its head to the sky, the protruding ribs, suggest that the reptile is tightening its grip to suffocate its prey while being about to plant its fangs in its neck. The very expressive modeling and the naturalistic details reinforce the realism of the fight between the two animals. The sculptor has created a terracotta of beautiful presence here.
This sculpture is signed on the ground near the horse's rump. Another testimony from the artist; The terracotta displays traces of modeling, a direct evocation of the sculptor's meticulous gestures which reinforces the unique character of the work. Good state of conservation, a restoration is to be noted (see photos).
