Jean Laudy was born on May 4, 1877 in Venlo, the Netherlands. A painter of portraits, interiors, but also specialized in flowers and still lifes, he was of Dutch origin, but settled in Belgium in 1893 and obtained Belgian nationality in 1921. He married Hélène Demoulin, also a talented painter and watercolorist.
He studied at the Academies of Fine Arts in Antwerp and Brussels, and was a student of the master teacher and artist I. Verheyden from 1894 to 1895. Jean Laudy enjoyed considerable success during his life and was a member of the workshops "La Patte de Dindon" and "L'Effort." He was also a full member of the prestigious and important Royal Academy of Belgium.
Jean Laudy died on 6 February 1956 in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert (Brussels).
Today, his works can be found in private and public collections, including museums in Brussels, Ixelles, Mons, Saint-Josse-ten-Noode and Saint-Nicolas.
