Louis XV Style Coffee Table In Marquetery Signed Paul Sormani

A rosewood coffee table, Louis XV style, adorned on all sides with queen-style marquetry on a green-tinted sycamore background in amaranth frames drawing interlacing.
The inlaid top, surrounded by an ingot mould, is indented and slightly trapezoidal in shape.
It opens on the front with three small drawers.
It rests on curved legs. Ornamentation of chiseled bronzes.
Signed by Paul SORMANI, 10, rue Charlot, PARIS.
This style of small table as well as this marquetry decoration are frequently found on furniture by the cabinetmaker Jean-François OEBEN.
Coming from Italy to settle in France, it is from 1854, rue du Temple, that Paul SORMANI develops the manufacture of furniture "of a quality of execution of the very first order" inspired by the styles Louis XV and Louis XVI. Then from 1867, established rue Charlot, Sormani knows the consecration, becoming one of the great names of cabinetmaking of the Second Empire.
Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon 3 decorated her palaces with beautiful creations by Paul Sormani. His Louis XV and XVI style furniture was highly sought after among the Parisian upper class.
