Object description :

"Antique Ernst Wahliss Porcelain Cornucopia Vase, Circa 1897."
Art Nouveau Cornucopia porcelain vase by Ernst Wahliss, Vienna, beautifully hand painted with exquisite floral designs that are evident on both sides. On the porcelain of the vase is applied a kind of unglazed terracotta that flows downwards. The rim and top of the vase are decorated with painted gilding and a circular pattern. The piece has been handcrafted to perfection. The base is marked in blue with the company crown and "Depose EW Turn Wien Made in Austria", which dates this piece to the late 19th century. Ernst Wahliss was born in 1836. He was one of the leading Viennese retailers of porcelain and ceramic wares. His Vienna shop was established in 1863. His business was so successful that he was able to open other shops in major European cities such as London and supply many European royal families with ceramics of the highest quality. In 1894, Ernst Wahliss decided to take over Alfred Stellmacher's factory in Turn-Teplitz (in present-day Czechoslovakia). He renamed the factory Ernst Wahliss Kunst, Porzellan und Fayence Fabrik. The company produced large quantities of various objects and received numerous awards at exhibitions. Ernst died in 1900. Two years later, his sons Hans and Erich purchased 600 molds from the Imperial and Royal Porcelain Manufactory in Vienna. Using these molds, they began to produce reproductions of Vienna porcelain. In 1905, the company was renamed Alexandra Porcelain Works Ernst Wahliss. In 1907, the factory was bought by Gerhard Martin Wahliss. In 1910, the factory focused on the production of faience. The factory closed temporarily due to the First World War. In 1921 it became part of Porzellanfabrik Union AG and in 1929 production stopped. Dimensions: Height 30 cm, width 11 cm, depth 9.5 cm, weight 364 grams. Condition: One flea bite on the upper edge and another on the tip of the horn. Otherwise the piece is in excellent condition. Please study the accompanying photographs carefully, as they are an integral part of this description. The item will be shipped with full tracking and insurance.
