"Large Oak Dining Table - Design - Art Deco France"
Large Art Deco wooden table dating from the 1950s. The table has 4 curved legs connected by an H-shaped spacer. Its characteristic features give it a very designer and modern spirit. The table is extendable, by pulling on the sides (the extensions are missing). This superb dining table surely inspired the series of "disaster victims" furniture, designed by René Gabriel. In the aftermath of the Second World War, the Ministry of Reconstruction and Urban Planning commissioned a group of decorators, designers, and manufacturers to create a range of easily reproducible furniture to refurnish homes that had suffered destruction during the war. René Gabriel, a 20th century French designer specializing in mass-produced furniture, was quickly selected. France - 1950's
