"Diorama Libertas 1786 / Toy Soldiers"
Exceptional 18th century diorama representing the siege of a city named LIBERTAS. All the buildings of the city are made of folded and painted paper, the soldiers are made of lead. 2 or 3 buildings are missing as well as soldiers without this spoiling the extraordinary quality of the whole. This diorama is inserted in a large trapezoid in painted wood and covered with optical views on the inside and wallpaper on the outside in average condition but completely original. Handles on each side allowed transport. There was a window in a wooden frame tilting on the front but this piece is missing. It is dated and signed lower right: DG GOUDIER Fecit 1786 and the city is named: LIBERTAS. This is undoubtedly the representation of a historical fact of the time, certainly in eastern Europe according to the buildings. Museum object of great rarity and high quality. 90 cm in length, 70 cm in height and 50 cm in depth.
