Baluster-shaped pewter wine pitcher with straight and oblique foot and goblet, raised flat-top lid and acorn thumb.
Control hallmark: CC crowned / 1709 / TOL (for Tolosa, the old appellation of Toulouse).
Height: 21.7 cm.
TOULOUSE, 18th century

Well-executed local consolidation at the junction of the body and the pedestal, invisible from the outside.
This baluster shape with a raised flat-top lid is characteristic of the productions of this only French center to have preserved this medieval-inspired typology.
I would like to point out in passing that these pitchers were the wine measures of the Ancien Régime. In Toulouse, the royal edict of 1691 regulating the control hallmark was not respected and the 1709 vintage is the last one listed to date. It was used throughout much of the 18th century and therefore does not allow for precise dating of objects bearing it.
