Object description :

"Kashmir Silk Rug, 122 X 197 Cm, Hand Knotted Circa 1970, Srinagar, Kashmir, North India"
Very beautiful Kashmir carpet with classic classic decoration, hand-knotted in silk, in very good condition (almost perfect) and with a respective size of 122 cm wide by 197 cm long.
The quality of these beautiful natural Kashmir silks is no longer to be demonstrated.
One can only be admiring in front of the work and the abundance of patterns, stylized flowers, arabesques and this large medallion covering this carpet and its borders.
Silk velvet, fringes, selvedges in very good condition.
Originally from Srinagar, "the emerald city" so named thanks to its greenery. But its name, Srinagar means "The blessed city of beauty and knowledge".
The colors of great softness, mainly an old pink almost brick, and very pale blue, black and cream, provoke contrasts while separating the patterns. The thickness of this carpet is 5 mm, which makes it a flexible piece but whose hold on the ground is stiffened by the density of the knots. The Kashmiris knot these carpets (in Kashmiri: کٲشِرؠ)
They are an ethnolinguistic group originating from the region of the Kashmir Valley, in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, one of the most wonderful regions of India.
The Srinagar region of Kashmir is where these wonders are produced and where they were produced, silk on silk and silk on cotton. Srinagar, the Venice of India, its carpets decorated with gardens, like the Shalimar gardens, its papier-mâché, and its colorful culture.
India and especially the Kashmir region is not a wool-producing country, hence the little use of this material. Apart from the queen of wools, the "Shatoosh", known worldwide and coming from an ibex from the Ladak mountains.
The wool used in India comes almost entirely from imports.
The pieces from Kashmir are of impeccable quality, knotted with top-notch materials as beautiful as in Iran and have been competing with them for many decades.
This carpet has been cleaned professionally and ecologically.
