Group Of Putti Fighting A Swan In Patinated Lead Attributed To Barthelemy Guibal (1699-1757)

The group in patinated or bronzed lead consists of two putti fighting a swan in a whirling composition. Small in size, it is a reduction or a model of a fountain, developed following those made for the Château de Versailles, also in lead. Barthelemy Guibal produced a copy on the same subject, quite similar, for the Château de Luneville at the request of Stanislas Lezinska, King of Poland and Duke of Lorraine. Now preserved at the Château de Schwetzingen, dated 1740, these groups seem to be at the origin of our reduction. The style of the works made at Place Stanislas in Nancy, dated around 1750, more rotating in the composition as well as the treatment of the hair in large, more voluminous locks, corresponds more to our group. We can therefore place this work around 1750-1760;
