The theme of the Education of the Virgin is rarely found in the corpus of the workshops of Le Mans. A work attributed to Nicolas Bouteiller from the middle of the 17th century is in the parish church of Sainte Colombe in La Flèche, and a version close to ours preserved in the Louvre and contemporary comes from the collection of the great merchant Demotte. The majority of the sculptures of the Mancelle school are made of terracotta and of large dimensions to adorn the churches of the region. This one, is a reduced model, probably intended for a private oratory, retains some traces of its original polychromy. Workshops of Le Mans, middle of the 17th century
