Description of the work:
We have the privilege of presenting to you a rare and exceptional pair of sculpted bas-reliefs from the 15th century, illustrating two poignant figures of Christianity: the Ecce Homo (Christ with the outrages) and the Mater Dolorosa (Virgin of Sorrows). These works are true testimonies of the medieval sacred art of Northern Europe.

History and Provenance:
These panels were probably part of an altarpiece that decorated a church in Saint-Malo in the 15th century. After the altarpiece was dispersed, they were preserved in a private collection, passed down from generation to generation. Today, they are offered for sale for the first time in several centuries, after having been cleaned and restored with the greatest care.
Conservation status:
The bas-reliefs are in a very good state of preservation. The cleaning and restoration were carried out in such a way as to respect the integrity of the works, preserving their original patina and golden splendor. The gold backgrounds, as well as the tempera painted details, are remarkably preserved, offering a depth and luminosity that captivates the eye.
