"Virgin And Child Of Trapani In Alabaster "
Alabaster sculpture, this sculpture linked to the formidable cult of the Virgin of Trapani attributed to Nino Pisano (around 315-1368) preserved in a marble marquetry chapel within the church of the Annonziata knows a celebrity that crosses the centuries through in particular a pilgrimage still active today. We know of many copies of this work. This one, of relatively large size is quite close to the original, and is placed in the continuation of that preserved in the Louvre (RF 1444) formerly given to the workshop of Domenico Gagini. The elegance of the drapery, the intensity of the visual exchange between the Mother and the Son, the beauty of their faces cannot fail to touch us. Sicily 17th century
