Jean-Gérard Carrère (1922-2015) A young graduate of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux where he was Roganeau's student, Jean-Gérard Carrère chose to teach drawing very early on. A member of the Salon des Artistes Français since 1952, he has had numerous solo exhibitions in Paris, London, Bordeaux, as well as group exhibitions in Saint-Raphaël, Paris, Bordeaux (Septemvir), Collioure where he met Picasso in 1954. During his many travels, he painted the old quarters of Dutch cities, German, Scandinavian, Spanish landscapes. He was often inspired by his region, his city of Bordeaux and the Arcachon Basin, but also by the Basque Country, Provence and the Pyrenees. His processes were infinitely varied: oil, gouache, watercolor, enhanced drawing, Indian ink. As well as the themes he approached: landscapes, seasides, still lifes, portraits. His painting is marked by a search for simplification of forms and a freedom of colors that are fresh and bright. Several of his paintings have been acquired by museums: Bordeaux, the port of Rotterdam and the port of Bordeaux; Saint-Raphaël: the fishermen's port; Céret: the port of Collioure Good condition.
