The artist
Alf BACHMANN is a German painter born in 1863 in Dirschau. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Konigsberg (now Kaliningrad, Russia). He moved to Munich in 1891 and died in Ambach in 1956.
Bachmann is famous for his views of Venice, Istanbul but also the coasts of Portugal and Normandy. It can be assumed that he travelled a lot, but his life remains poorly known. However, we do know that he was successful during his lifetime, with the German state rewarding him on several occasions.
His works are held in several German museums. They have been the subject of numerous public sales in France and abroad.
