Mechelen, early 16th century.
Measures 36cm high, 39.5cm including plinth.
The sculpture of the Virgin is stood upon a crescent moon, in her arms she holds the fidgeting figure of the infant Christ, who is holing a bible.
The reverse of the sculpture is marked with the five bars representing ‘Malines’.
There are professional restorations to the tips of the crescent moon and the bible is a very good, carved oak replacement.
