Circa 1820/1840 France Rare French cashmere shawl woven on a silk and wool draw loom called Moon Shawl and dating from the Romantic period. Square shawl with cream background intended for elegant ladies of the Restoration and often in a wedding basket, the design of which deliberately imitates the shawls of India. Very fine weave with a large central moon and quarter moons at the corners of a thousand flowers motif, predominantly blue, red, green and saffron. Cream tapered fringes on two sides. These moon shawls can be seen in France in the iconography of fashion plates from the Directoire period around 1800. Soft shawl with a few rare tiny moth holes, visible only in transparency. Otherwise clean, no lack and very good general condition of colors and conservation. Dimensions: 144 cm x 141 cm
