Khorassan are renowned for their great elegance, the classic type is decorated with repeated patterns, either botehs or a Herati decoration. # The design called Herati is after the city of Herat which was part of Khorassan in the 19th century.
Mahi pattern, Persian floral design, used above all in Khorasan and Ferahan, design meaning fish in Persian and corresponding to the Herati pattern. The wool of the Khorasan is fine silky and delicate, our Kain model presents a palette of typical shades, clear, almost faded, orange and pistachio green dominate associated with other colors.
The medallion having some resemblances with the Kashan type, shows us two small pendants at the ends and is found in colors and designs in the spandrels; The delicate floral border is adorned with the same shades as the pistachio field covered with a Herati decoration also called Mahi.
There are three types of Khorasan, the classic, our model, then a type with a plain field or can occasionally present multiple medallions, and the rarest Khorassan, with animals, in hunting decoration.
These pieces, knotted for centuries, are located in the Northeast of Persia, Iran whose capital is Meshed (Macchad), a border region of Afghanistan and Baluchistan. Our model is in good condition and is of course more intended to adorn a wall. Khorasan (in Persian: خراسان,) pers. etym. "where the sun comes from") is a region located in the northeast of Iran.
The eastern part of the Sassanid Empire, Khorasan is considered by Afghans to be the medieval name for Afghanistan since it extended from the Northeast of Persia (present-day Iran) over the entire territory of present-day Afghanistan and included southern Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan to the Oxus River (Amu Darya).
In addition to Khorasan and Persian rugs, it is not uncommon to find Afghan, Baluch and Turkmen rugs there, these ethnic groups have lived there for centuries. Khorasan is renowned for its famous rugs and the cultivation of saffron in the south of the province.
