"18th Century Sand Powder Box For Drying Ink "
Sand powder box for drying ink from the 18th century. It is composed of a porcelain column with cut sides decorated with a flower seedling topped with a silver top pierced with holes to let the "sand" pass through. This piece was used to sprinkle the writings to speed up drying. We put a little "sand" composed of ash and sandstone. Then the sand was removed with a brush by putting it in the middle of the sheet which was slightly bent to return this sand into the powder
