"Flowers By Auguste Jouve (1854-1936)"
Very beautiful work by Auguste JOUVE (1854-1936). This is an Oil on panel signed lower right and measuring 63 x 46.5 cm. The work is also dated lower left 1883. The painting is in perfect condition and has just been carefully cleaned by my restorer, except for the edges, intended to be covered by the frame. The painting is not framed but I can possibly provide a frame that suits it well and that would simply need to be cut. Free delivery in Paris possible. Auguste JOUVE was born in 1854 in Cavaillon and died in the same city in 1936 (Artprice mentions the dates 1846-1905 which are apparently erroneous). He is the father of the animal painter and sculptor Paul JOUVE. He was a student at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Lyon and exhibited in Lyon from 1866 and in Paris after 1877; he won a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1889 in Paris. He was a friend of Theo and Vincent Van Gogh, which is why some of his works are kept at the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
