"Flat Desk With Curule Legs, Charles X Style."
Very elegant desk from a beautiful cabinetmaker, made in a Charles X style with these speckled maple veneers and its rosewood fillets, enriched with stained wood sculpture with the griffin paws which adorn the end of each of the legs as well as architectural motifs such as rings, gadroons and disc. Inspired by the productions of the first quarter of the 19th century in particular with works made by Jacob Desmalter or Jacob frère this desk benefits from a very beautiful curule base, inspired by Antiquity, this form which is found in particular on beautiful Empire armchairs and under beautiful productions of the Restoration period, will be taken up by designers of the 20th century as it brings lightness and elegance. A very beautifully made piece of furniture dating from the first half of the 20th century, with its drawers dressed in sycamore finely mounted with dovetails, it is also a spacious work space which is enlarged with its two side pulls. On the storage side, the belt is equipped with 3 drawers of equal dimensions, we also note a large clearance for the legs with a belt with a small footprint. If the finish of this desk has been redone with a fine varnish, giving back this beautiful light color to the maple, the rest is original like the leather which adorns the top and the pulls still in good condition and with a beautiful patina, the drawers also retain their locks, there are also 2 keys with bronze heads in the shape of a palmette. Dimensions: Height of the top: 77 cm Height under the belt: 63 cm Width of the top: 120 cm Width with the two pulls: 196 cm Depth of the top: 70 cm
