Pair Of Reversible Candlestick Potpourris Circa 1780

Description:
White marble, chiseled ormoulu bronze.

Each potpourri has a triangular base with curved and projecting edges. The body of the potpourri rests on three lion's paws and a central twist. The feet end in drooping bays.
The lid decorated with a plant fleuron turns over to reveal a socket decorated with guilloché. The bronze crown supporting the lid is openwork with a frieze of cutouts for use in potpourri. Usually reversible cassolettes are only used as lighting fixtures, with a second use the models are rare. We are in the quality of delicate chiseling and an elegant sobriety typical of the period.

Condition:
very good original condition, slightly faded ground gold and small chips of use on the two lids.
