Miniature pewter medal, representing an allegorical scene from antiquity, titled Prudence Succès, to illustrate the expression "Prudence is the first step that leads to success.", very finely engraved in an Empire frame with palmettes. The plaque is signed at the bottom Lorthior and dated 1805. It is presented in a beautiful wooden frame gilded with gold leaf. Empire period, early 19th century. Pierre-Joseph Lorthior, or Lorthioir, born January 22, 1733 in Lille and died in 1813 in Paris, engraved a large number of medals, seals and tokens. He executed the great seal of Queen Marie-Antoinette after the pewter of Mr. Richebé. He was the king's medallist. Beautiful amateur object, rare. One of those small detailed objects that complete an Empire or early 19th century decor to create an authentic atmosphere. Presented here in a beautiful frame.
