based on a model by René Lalique.
Poudrier “Dahlia”.
Important circular-section COVERED TIN made of translucent molded-pressed crystal; the cylindrical base has an opalescent finish, topped by a satin-finish lid featuring, in relief, the design of a dahlia flower in full bloom, enhanced on the pistil by small touches of black enamel.
The base of the compact is in clear, virgin crystal.
A beautiful, illustrious and emblematic model, originally in glass, created during the Art Deco period by René Lalique, in 1931.
BIBLIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION | This box appears in Félix Marcilhac's catalog raisonné (2004 edition), illustrated under reference no. 620.
This model appeared in the 1932 catalog, in the 1937 price list, continued beyond 1947, and then reappeared after 1951, under the reference 11-355 in the official nomenclature.
The object presented here is therefore post-1951: made in crystal (not glass), it bears the signature “Lalique France” in script letters engraved with a stylus on the reverse of its base (see photo no. 3).
It is, moreover, the so-called “number 2” box, which, as shown below, has rather beautiful, large dimensions (it initially appears to be a compact, but the object could quite easily be perceived as a bonbonnière, a vide-poches, a box... for jewelry, for example).
DIMENSIONS :
- total height of box, with lid, 07.00 CM;
- box diameter, 11.50 CM.
CONDITION REPORT,
STATE OF PRESERVATION :the box is in perfect condition: there is no particular wear, no shocks, no accidents or chips.The crystal is perfectly clear, brilliant and unaltered, as is the enamel.
Each relief of the dahlia flower is intact and free from chips or rubbing; the state of preservation is truly ideal.One or two tiny scratches can be seen on the reverse of the base, underneath (of no consequence whatsoever, very fine, faint and, above all, not visible when the object is set down); a tiny use mark on the lid, again of no consequence whatsoever, illustrated in photo no. 4.
These two marks have no impact whatsoever on the perfect condition of this object (they are not visible, not noticeable at all).
The box is therefore in excellent condition, and very beautiful.
