"Bust of Alexandre Brongniart",
after the work of Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741-1828).
Important decorative SCULPTURE (32 cm) resting on a circular base, made of white biscuit porcelain and depicting a bust of Alexandre Brongniart (1770-1847), future Director of the Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres and son of Alexandre-Théodore Brongniart, renowned architect.
The bust is quite large, sober, elegant and very decorative.
The quality is particularly fine and beautiful; the details of the child's face, for example, are precise and neat (facial expression, gaze, clothing, etc.).
This piece, produced by the factories of the porcelain maker Camille Tharaud based in Limoges, is inspired in all respects by the terracotta work shaped by the artist Jean-Antoine Houdon in 1777, and exhibited at the Louvre Museum in Paris.
Signature of the Tharaud Manufacture stamped inside the base (see photo n°2).
Late production, middle or even second half of the 20th century, after the Art Deco period (the dating is allowed by the signature).
DIMENSIONS:
- height, approximately 32.00 CM;
- maximum span (between the two shoulders), approximately 17.50 CM;
- diameter of the base, at the bottom, 12.20 CM.
CONDITION REPORT:
the bust is in excellent condition. There are no chips, no accidents, no shocks... The porcelain is intact. Possibility of finding minimal stains on the porcelain, to finish cleaning (see photos, starting from image n°3). This can be cleaned. No other wear, very nice overall condition!
