"Louis XIV Period Gilded Wood Pediment Mirror, Early 18th Century"
Magnificent large Louis XIV period mirror in carved and gilded wood. Very rich decoration with a frame carved in the Bérain style with cartouches, interlacing and acanthus leaves. It is flanked on the sides by figures of fantastic animals with acanthus bodies. The whole is topped with a majestic openwork pediment carved in interlacing acanthus leaves and ending with a triple acanthus plume in the style of ostrich feathers at the top. The leaf gilding is original, very thick and shiny with a beautiful warm and deep patina. Only the lower rod has been lightly regilded. The mercury glass appears to be original, it shows a few rare traces of oxidation. Louis XIV period, early 18th century.
