Serge CHARCHOUNE is a Russian painter from Bougourouslan. When he arrived in Paris in 1912, he attended the Russian Academy of Montparnasse and then the Academy of the Palette. His painting is nourished by the influences of both Cubism and Fauvism. He exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants from 1913. His painting became abstract in the 1950s. In 1971 a retrospective was dedicated to him at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris. "The Garden" is a work from the artist's youth, rich in color. Painted with small, light touches, Charchoune uses a warm palette. This painting is painted on its original canvas, it is signed lower left and dated 1941. Museums: Dijon, Alès, Lille.
