A stunning study of a young woman by the celebrated Victorian painter Haynes King (1831-1904). Known for his depictions of everyday life in working-class homes in the late 19th century, King captures a moment of intimate contemplation in a work entitled 'While Pensive, I thought of my Love'. This painting, dating from the 1870s, is an excellent example of King's delicate and moving art. The work is signed lower right and is housed in a richly decorated 19th century gilt frame with a fluted inner border.
