"Gouache Dressed And Marquetry Of Straw: Small Crafts"
Amazing gouache dressed and marquetry of straw, representing two characters, 18th century period. The technique of this work consists of dressing characters with pieces of glued fabric, only the faces and hands, as well as the decoration are made with gouache. This well-known and fashionable art in the 18th century presented different subjects such as scenes of daily life, small street trades, peddlers, gallant scenes etc. Here, it is a street vendor offering "breads" (?) to a woman in a turban, near them on each side of the furniture in straw marquetry. The applications of small pieces of fine silk are remarkable, it is very difficult for the naked eye to distinguish the textile from the gouache. These silk inserts are enhanced with gouache to mark the folds of the clothes, they are of different colors such as pink, blue and beige. Plant decoration on the ground in gouache. Small alterations to the gouache on a woman's face and hand. Small losses to the straw. The whole remains under glass, surrounded by an old mat made with a ruler, gouache and gilded gummed paper. Old baguette frame in gilded wood, visible wear and chips. Dimensions on sight: 26 X 22 cm. Please note: dressed gouaches very rarely have straw marquetry additions like this one. Prestigious provenance that I will communicate to the buyer. Non-negotiable price. Delivery: €15 for mainland France.
