"Kota Reliquary Figure, Gabon."
Excellent Kota-Sango reliquary figure from Gabon, the object measures approximately 30cms, wooden core plated with copper or brass, the patina of time is deep. The quality of the sculpture is quite remarkable with a somewhat disturbing presence. The object is filed in what is considered a magical or reliquary charge but probably a substitute because it is often desecrated at the time of a trade with the passing traveler. This sculpture has no obvious pedigree or traceability but can be estimated in the middle (or perhaps a little before) the 20th century.
