"Hammam Towel Or Yaglik In Embroideries Of Golden Embossed Blades - Ottoman Empire 19th Century "
19th century Ottoman Empire Large Hammam towel with reversible silk embroidery, embossed with silver and gold metal blades dating from the 19th century. Named Yaglik in Turkish, this Ottoman ceremonial towel is on a fine cotton twill background with a looped center. At the ends, a rich reversible tinsel embroidery in interlacing plant stems with large polychrome flowers. At one end, a workshop embroidery forming a blue belvedere, unidentified, as well as a label embroidered with the AR monogram concerning its provenance. Some light stains and rust halos (foxing). No holes. Very good condition with preserved and unoxidized tinsel given its age. Exceptional piece. Dimensions: 173 cm x 73 cm
