"Two Children, Framed Pastel Signed Louis-jean Beaupuy, Early 20th Century."
Very beautiful framed pastel, representing two children from black Africa during the colonial era. Signed Louis-Jean Beaupuy (1896-1971); dated 1935. Louis-Jean Beaupuy, a student of Fernand Cormon at the Beaux-Arts in Paris where he received several diplomas. In 1930, he received the silver medal from the Society of French Artists. He exhibited in 1932 at the Salon des Artistes Français. He won a scholarship in 1931 to travel to Madagascar, then another in 1934 to travel to French Equatorial Africa. He exhibited several times at the Salon colonial des Artistes Français in the 1930s. Several of his paintings were exhibited at the Musée du Quai-Branly. Little listed although very talented, we find some references to this painter in sales at Christie's. He is in the Bénézit. External dimensions of the frame: 65.5 x 51 cms.
