A little history:
The wedding armoire was the dowry given by the bride's father. It was admired on the wedding day. The more abundant the carvings, the greater the social importance of the donor.
The wedding armoire was not mass-produced, but a one-off piece, crafted by a “Cabinet Maker”, a carpenter or cabinetmaker skilled in drawing and carving with chisel and chisel. Only two were made per year, so the date of delivery determined the wedding date.
The golden age of this furniture was between 1800 and 1850, and is steeped in French history and tradition.
Do you know the expression “Strong as a Norman wardrobe”? This furniture was so famous at the time, that this expession has been preserved!
