Object description :

"1880's Dutch Silver Spectacle Glasses Case, Greek Key, Vacant Cartouche, Neoclassical"
Antique Dutch silver spectacle case for glasses. Elongated rectangular body of hexagonal form with bevelled edges. Beautiful engine-turned decoration all over the body - geometric bands to base and a doted floral design to lid. The edges of the lid are trimmed with a meander Greek key design in Neoclassical style; the two corners of the lid are engraved with scrolls. There is a vacant cartouche to centre for personalised engraving that is surrounded with wriggle work scrolls.

The lid opens with a push button catch to reveal dark blue velvet lining. Underneath the lining there is a lion passant 2 mark for 833 silver.

Made in the Netherlands, c. 1880’s.

64.95 g / 2.09 t oz
13.5 x 3.5 x 1.5 cm

Excellent antique condition, the clasp is secure. Two tiny dings; wear to the velvet lining appropriate to age and use.
